Achieving a Free America - 838 Words

After the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., which was more than 40 years ago, America as a whole has changed racial segregation, and becoming a more integrated society. During the era when King was a preacher, it was not an easy time for any black American. Slavery was coming to an end, but segregation was still alienating all races except whites. Many townships in the south still had old ways of thinking like white men should be in power to keep the evil of Injustice alive. Thanks to the help of Martin Luther King’s views and â€Å"goals for blacks to have freedom all over this nation because the goal of America is freedom† (King 222). Our America has racially intergraded in transportation, schools, careers, communities, and the†¦show more content†¦Things happen for a reason and King was born at a time that needed him and his visions. Kings vision for Integration in economic communities, political independence, transportation, workplace, facilitie s, just to name a few, all over America has been improving and is reflected in today’s society. An example of this would be the stores in Alabama while King was jailed in 1962 that displayed racial signs that said â€Å"No Colors† are no longer displayed in our store fronts today and is no longer tolerated by law. As long as someone is born in America or becomes an American citizen by law, there is a strong belief of freedom and equal rights held by all. During Kings visit to Alabama, voting was still being denied â€Å"Throughout Alabama all sorts of devious methods are used to prevent Negroes from becoming registered voters†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (King 216) and today there is an age limit, but all Americans 18 years or older, born or citizen by law have the right to vote. History was made January 20, 2009 when the first black president, Barrack Obama, was inaugurated on his first official day in office. There is still much to be done in creating King’s theory of a n integrated America and to remain different from other parts of the world that have communism and are prejudice, racist, and display ethnic hatred towards a specific racial or ethnic group.
